His gerryruiz photoblog was accorded the 2010 Best Photoblog Award (national level) by the Philippine Blog Awards on December 12, 2010 in Makati City.

Gerry was into TV & radio production before, as well as corporate communication projects. He was formerly with ABS-CBN 3 Cebu (Producer-Director), PRTV12 Tac (Station Manager, Producer-Director) & San Miguel Corp. (Comm Specialist for Vis-Min, Corporate Communications Office, SMC Cebu).

A Past President of the Rotary Club of San Juanico, District 3860, gerryruiz is the current president of the Camera Club of Leyte and Samar (CCLS).

Gerry holds a bachelor's degree in Broadcast Communication from the University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City. Aside from photography, he writes for print, too. Some of his works have been featured in publications like the Mabuhay Magazine of Philippine Airlines.
