They say true love conquers all. Here’s a real-life amusing love story which caught the press’s fancy over 50 years ago.
Senator Clarin’s Successful “Operation Inday”
Dashing Senator Olegario B. Clarin, sleek and handsome widower of 58, eloped on the morning of November 7 with beautiful Miss Zoila “Inday” Lim, 22, ex-queen, convent girl and daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Lim Tiaoco of the Loay Chinese community.
Confirmed reports are that the surprise wedding was performed by the justice of the peace of Dimiao, Bohol, at the home of Mrs. Filomena Vda. De Lim, mother-in-law of Senator Clarin by his first marriage, at about 11 o’clock Sunday morning, November 7.
The elopement was accomplished with clocklike precision. In Loay, Bohol, with her younger brother standing near by in church, Miss Lim vanished into thin air to reappear in the arms of her waiting lover, 20 odd kilometers away.
Congressman Luis Clarin, cousin of the senator, broke the sensational news of the successful “Operation Inday” to Sra. Eustaquia Clarin Fernandez, elder sister of the senator, and to the amazed parents of the girl. Sisters of the local Holy Trinity College of Loay, where the girl was attending school, are reported to be shocked by the romance, which developed without arousing their least suspicion. The exact whereabouts of the honeymooning pair are not known to this writing but sources close to Senator Clarin report that they are safe and happy in some secluded corner of Tagbilaran.
