How NOT to Propose

Wrong move bud…

One of the worst wedding proposals ever made can be seen in the movie “The Bachelor” where Chris O’ Donnell makes his proposal in the Starlight Lounge, a restaurant known among the locals as the place to pop THE QUESTION.

Why is it the worst? Jimmie (O’Donnell) proposes to Anne (Rene Zellweger) capping their three-year relationship with the very dry and very unromantic statement ” You win”. Needless to say, this kind of proposal did not merit the desired response. But who can blame Zellweger’s character. That’s is why this article sees fit to advise all those who would want to ask on the don’ts of popping the question.

Don’t put the engagement ring in anything edible Some guys think that this is cute but believe in the basic sense that, not unless you have administered a dozen or so Heimlich maneuvers, will you be able to pull this off without worrying about the big possibility of choking your girlfriend to death. Plus it puts a pallor on the evening when you have to spend most of the time calling paramedics or worst buying another ring because the first one is not something that, should it turn up, your loved one would want to ever wear again.

…or worst buying another ring because the first one is not something that, should it turn up, your loved one would want to wear ever again.

Don’t overdo on the props

Props are nice and it adds pizzazz to the occasion but overdoing it could put a shadow the essence of the whole plan. Imagine popping the question only to have the 8-piece orchestra you hired drown out the answer. Or have your loved one’s voice be muffled with the 12 dozen flowers you ordered. Remember to keep it simple.

Don’t invite everybody

Marriage proposals are, essentially, a private affair between you and your intended. Decide on having your whole work department present at the wedding ceremony itself. But should you happen to be unintentionally caught in a family affair, make sure that when you do ask the question, that you focus on her and not on playing to the crowd.

…make sure that when you do ask the question, that you focus on her and not on playing to the crowd.

Don’t ask a complicated one

Some guys, in their need to come out with a smart and witty way of asking their girlfriends to marry them and still keep their macho image, often end up confusing the poor girl of what really is going on. Make sure that the real intention is not misinterpreted nor overlooked. And keep in mind to tell her of how you much you love her and not of how it almost took you to making a business plan to spring the question.

The final answer

For all the hype that has been done in making proposals, from charting a yacht to having total strangers present flowers, to even having a man drop from the sky in a parachute, the most classic of all styles, is dropping to one knee and asking ” Will you marry me?” All of the embellishments you had planned, the ad you were about to place on a highway billboard or the fireworks you wanted to buy, will never compare to the exhilaration you will feel when she says “Yes”.
